Cheddar + Chive Scones
These cheese scones are made simply with chives and shredded cheese.

Dairy Free Scones
This recipe uses dairy-free milk, butter and cheese. It also uses a flax seed "egg" for enhanced texture.

How to Make It
Full instructions
Freeze Butter
Step 1:
Place a stick of dairy free butter into your freezer.
Freeze it for at least 2 hours (but overnight is best).
Make Flax "Egg"
Step 2:
Stir ground flaxseed with lemon juice and water.
Set this mixture aside.
Mix Dry Ingredients
Step 3:
In a large bowl, whisk some flour, salt and baking powder until well combined.
Cut in Butter
Step 4:
Use a box grater to shred butter into the flour mixture.
Toss the butter around so each shred is well coated.
Create Dough
Step 5:
Add the flaxseed “egg”, soy milk and sugar to your flour-butter mix.
Stir together until mostly combined.
Create Dough
Step 5:
Toss in shredded cheese and chopped chives.
Continue stirring until the cheese and chives are spread evenly.
Shape Scones
Step 6:
Flour your countertop, then place the dough on it.
Press or roll the dough to about 1-inch thick and cut into 8 or 10 scones.
Bake and Serve
Step 7:
Preheat oven and transfer cut scones onto a baking tray. Brush with butter.
Bake at 350 F for 15 min.
Cool to room temperature, then transfer to an airtight container.
Refrigerate for up to 1 week.
